We've been in Montana since the winter of '86. Before that we lived in the flatlands of California's central valley, in the fantasy town of Davis.

We were members of the Davis Dog Training Club and were introduced to Schutzhund and tracking by Bill & Carolyn Dotson (now of Virginia) and their Black Dogs, especially Greenfield's Fluer des Lis.

Living in Davis we were just a short distance from various Schutzhund clubs which we visited occasionally, but it took moving to Montana, where it's a 400 mile drive to the next nearest club, to get competitively involved. Visiting Germans shake their heads and mutter "Crazy Americans" when we tell them how far we drive to train, but it's worth it. The friendship and camraderie of clubs in Washington, Utah, Colorado and Alberta have made it all worthwhile.

Summer in Montana: Derek & the dogs. It doesn't matter whether it's from the hose, the wading pool, the creek, the river or the sprinklers, kids and dogs can't resist water. Ain't life grand?
L-R: Rosie, Hawkeye, Ryker, Cindy, all deceased, & Derek age 3 or 4.

Winter in Montana: Sam & Derek sledding. Or, uh, crashing.

Besides being a great training helper, Warren enjoys woodworking and plays bass guitar in a blues band called the "Textbook Blues." For info on his professional life, visit him at his MSU website.

Suffering from burnout, or maybe it was a mid-life crisis, Sam decided to take a break from dog training and try trail-riding. Here's Buck, an AQHA grandson of Three Chicks.
